The Jeep Cherokee is a compact five-seat crossover that returned as an all-new model for 2026 and is built around a turbocharged 1.6-liter hybrid system. Every model comes with four-wheel drive and a 3,500-pound tow rating. For 2027 the lineup widens with a Trail Rated Trailhawk, plus two Altitude trims, and it is a good fit for shoppers who want Jeep styling, long highway range and light trail ability without a plug.
The New England take
The Cherokee fits New England distances. Its 1.6-liter turbo hybrid makes 210 hp combined, runs on regular fuel and needs no plug, which matters in towns where charging stations are rare. Jeep estimates up to 37 mpg combined and more than 500 miles on one 13.7-gallon tank, a useful figure for a Boston-to-Aroostook run. Every Cherokee is 4x4, starting at $35,130, with 3,500 pounds of towing. The Trailhawk adds 9.0 inches of clearance, a 24-inch fording figure and a 2.92:1 low range for rutted logging roads. At 188.1 inches long it parks easily in a standard garage, and the Overland's optional pro tech group adds a wiper de-icer.
The 1.6-liter turbo four works with electric motors and a small battery that refills through braking. Jeep estimates up to 39 mpg in the city and 37 combined, with more than 500 miles possible on one tank, which it calls the most fuel-efficient Jeep ever made without a plug.
Every Cherokee uses the Active Drive II 4x4 system, so you do not pay extra for traction. The 3,500-pound tow rating is the same on every model, and Jeep says it is the only vehicle in its class rated for 24 inches of water fording when properly equipped.
The announced Trailhawk adds a two-speed transfer unit that Jeep calls class-exclusive, with a Rock mode, a 2.92 low range and a 37.5:1 crawl ratio. Skid plates, special front and rear fascias, off-road suspension and all-terrain tires round out the kit, and the vehicle is flat-tow capable behind a motorhome.
The wheelbase is 113 inches and the cabin seats five. Cargo space measures 29.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 62.2 cubic feet with the second row folded, and every trim has a 12.3-inch touchscreen.
Laredo Altitude and Limited Altitude give buyers a blacked-out look with 18-inch gloss black wheels. The trims listed on this page run from the base Cherokee through Laredo, Limited, Limited Altitude and Overland, which gives shoppers a wide range of prices to choose from.

It is one of the better fits in the Jeep lineup. On Jeep's numbers, 37 mpg combined stretches the 13.7-gallon tank past 500 miles. Cold weather and winter-blend fuel will lower real mileage, and the Trailhawk's EPA numbers are lower at 33 city and 29 highway. Still, stops will be fewer than in most vehicles of this size.
Yes. Its 1.08 kWh battery refills from braking and the engine, and there is no charge port at all. That makes it simple for apartment living in Providence or a rural house with no outlet near the driveway. It is not a plug-in hybrid and cannot run long distances on electricity alone.
